Julijana Milutinović is a versatile force in the world of sound - a magnetic radio host, sharp editor, and electrifying DJ for more than 30 years...
What song always gets you dancing?
JM: There was a party about ten years ago in Skopje where the three of us friends had an amazing time. I remember we were leaving the club around 4:30 AM. We were already outside when we heard The Propellerheads ''Take California'' playing as if we had never heard it before. We ran back into the club just to dance. So there are many songs like that I would dance to...
One track for life - which is it?
JM: If I had to play one track for the rest of my life, it would be ''Love & Happiness'' by Masters At Work.
Your guilty pleasure track?
JM: It’s ''Love to love you baby'' by Donna Summer.
Biggest mistake behind the decks?
Basically, the mistake was that I played what was essentially the same track, just a different remix. While I was previewing it, it sounded like, ''Wow, these two blend together perfectly.'' I didn’t even check the title or anything in that moment, it sounded amazing...
The ultimate 5 AM crowd track?
JM: ''Underworld - Cups''.
Dream artist to share a stage with?
JM: I would share the stage with Little Louie Vega And with the godfather of house music, Frankie Knuckles.
What did you forget to bring to a gig?
JM: I forgot something very important twice - my USB drive. I mean l did bring it, but the wrong one! I mean, l did bring my USB, but the wrong one.
A good DJ set or an unforgettable one?
JM: There isn’t a big difference between a good set and an unforgettable one. Because what is unforgettable for some people, may not be unforgettable for me, for the person who was playing that music. However, I have to highlight one of my sets that happened on April 9th in Skopje, this year. For me it was an unforgettable set. Every song I played, I literally felt it deeply and the audience felt it too.
Advice to your younger self?
JM: I would give my younger self this advice: To be yourself and to stay true to it! Because that’s the only way to guarantee that I will enjoy what I do.
